Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
Ha Mim 1 By the Clear Book. 2 Surely We revealed it on a blessed night surely We are ever warning-- 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 an order from Us. We are ever sending. 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them; if you people believe. 7 There is no god other than He, who gives you life and death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of old. 8 In fact, the unbelievers have doubts because of excessive involvement in worldly affairs. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 (They will say:) "Our Lord! remove the Penalty from us, for we do really believe!" 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 And saying: Be not proud against Allah. Lo! I bring you a clear warrant. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: “These are a criminal people.” 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 Leave the sea behind you parted; they are a host destined to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 We gave these as an inheritance to other people. 28 and neither sky nor earth shed tears over them, nor were they allowed a respite. 29
