Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha Mim. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 Amran (i.e. a Command or this Quran or the Decree of every matter) from Us. Verily, We are ever sending (the Messengers), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Verily He! He is the Hearer, the Knower. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatsoever is in-between the twain, if only ye would be convinced. 7 there is no deity save Him: It is He who gives both life and death -- He is your Lord, and the Lord of your forefathers, 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 Covering the people, this shall be a torment afflictive. 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 (saying:) 'Be obedient to me O worshipers of Allah. I am your honest Messenger. 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 I have taken refuge in my Lord and your Lord against your stoning me to death. 20 But if you do not believe me, then leave me alone." 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 God said, "Set out with My servants by night, for you will certainly be pursued. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 And green crops (fields etc.) and goodly places, 26 and the life of ease in which they took delight! 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
