Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 By the Clear Book 2 Verily We have sent it down on a blessed night, verily We were to become warners. 3 In the (Night) is made distinct every affair of wisdom, 4 The command that We have been sending 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 Wait, then, for the Day when the sky brings forth plainly visible clouds of smoke. 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 (They will say): "Our Lord! Remove the torment from us, really we shall become believers!" 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 whereupon they turned their backs on him and said, "Taught [by others] is he, a madman"? 14 Indeed, We will remove the torment for a little. Indeed, you [disbelievers] will return [to disbelief]. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 "Deliver the creatures of God to me. I am the trusted messenger sent to you. 18 And saying, “And do not rebel against Allah; I have brought a clear proof to you.” 19 And surely I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord that you should stone me to death: 20 If you do not believe in me, leave me alone." 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 So depart thou with My bondmen by night; verily ye shall be pursued. 23 And leave the sea in stillness. Indeed, they are an army to be drowned." 24 How many gardens and water-springs they left behind! 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 and good things in which they took delight. 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
