Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the Book that makes things clear, 2 We sent it (this Quran) down on a blessed night [(i.e. night of Qadr, Surah No: 97) in the month of Ramadan, the 9th month of the Islamic calendar]. Verily, We are ever warning [mankind that Our Torment will reach those who disbelieve in Our Oneness of Lordship and in Our Oneness of worship]. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 As a command from before Us. Verily We were to become senders: 5 (As) a Mercy from your Lord. Verily! He is the All-Hearer, the All-Knower. 6 He is the Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if only you would have strong faith. 7 La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He). It is He Who gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fore-fathers. 8 Yet they are lost in doubt and play. 9 Then watch for the Day when the sky will bring a visible smoke. 10 That shall overtake men; this is a painful punishment. 11 Then they will say, "Lord, relieve us from this torment, for truly we are now believers in You." 12 But how will they avail themselves of the Reminder, when a clear Messenger had already come to them 13 But they turned away from him, and said: "He is well-instructed, (but) possessed." 14 Verily, We shall remove the torment for a while. Verily! You will revert. 15 But on that Day We will assault them most mightily, and then We shall revenge! 16 ۞ And verily We tried before them Pharaoh's folk, when there came unto them a noble messenger, 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 And lo! I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord lest ye stone me to death. 20 And if ye put no faith in me, then let me go. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: these are a people guilty. 22 'Then set thou forth with My servants in a watch of the night; surely you will be followed. 23 Cross the sea by cutting a path through it. Pharaoh's army will be drowned. 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Thus it was; and We made another people inherit all that. 28 And neither heaven nor earth shed a tear over them: nor were they given a respite (again). 29
