Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha'. Mim. 1 I swear by the Book that makes manifest (the truth). 2 surely We sent it down on a blessed night, We have always sent warnings, 3 Therein every wise affair is made distinct, 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 A mercy from thy Lord. Lo! He, even He is the Hearer, the Knower, 6 the Lord of the heavens and the earth and of all that is between them: if you would only have sure faith. 7 There is no worship except for Him – He gives life and causes death; your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers. 8 (But the fact is, they lack certainty) and frolic about in doubt. 9 So be on the watch for a day when heaven shall bring a manifest smoke 10 enveloping all mankind, [and causing the sinners to exclaim:] "Grievous is this suffering! 11 O our Sustainer, relieve us of suffering, for, verily, we [now] believe [in Thee]!" 12 How can there be an admonition unto them, when surely there came unto them an apostle manifest! 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 Lo! We withdraw the torment a little. Lo! ye return (to disbelief). 15 On the day when We shall seize them with the greater seizure, (then) in truth We shall punish. 16 ۞ And before them We indeed tried the people of Firaun, and an Honourable Noble Messenger came to them. 17 Saying: Give up to me the slaves of Allah. Lo! I am a faithful messenger unto you. 18 Do not set yourselves above God: I bring you clear authority. 19 I seek protection from my Lord and your Lord from your decision of stoning me. 20 'But if so be that you believe me not, go you apart from me!' 21 And he cried unto his Lord, (saying): These are guilty folk. 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Even so; and We caused to inherit them another people. 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
