Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the clear Book, 2 We revealed it on a Blessed Night, for We were intent on warning; 3 In it every wise matter is determined 4 The command that We have been sending 5 A mercy from your Lord. Verily He is all-hearing and all-knowing, 6 Lord of the heavens and earth, and all that between them is if you have faith. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and makes to die; your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 Nay, they are in doubt, they sport. 9 So watch for the day when the sky begins to emit clear smoke, 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the torment, verily we shall become believers. 12 How shall they be reminded, and there came to them an Apostle making clear (the truth), 13 Yet they turned their backs on him and said: One taught (by others), a madman. 14 We shall remove the torment for a while but you will revert to your old ways. 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ AND, INDEED, [long] before their time did We try Pharaoh's people [in the same way]: for there came unto them a noble apostle, [who said:] 17 Saying: Deliver to me the servants of Allah, surely I am a faithful apostle to you, 18 "And exalt not yourselves against God: for, verily, I come unto you with a manifest authority [from Him]; 19 And indeed, I have sought refuge in my Lord and your Lord, lest you stone me. 20 "But if you believe me not, then keep away from me and leave me alone." 21 He therefore prayed to his Lord, “These are a guilty nation!” 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many were the gardens and the watersprings that they left behind, 25 corn-fields, gracious mansions, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 As such (it was). And We made other people inherit them. 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
