Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
Ha Mim 1 By the Book that makes things clear; 2 Behold, from on high have We bestowed it on a blessed night: for, verily, We have always been warning [man]. 3 therein every wise bidding 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 A mercy from your Lord; indeed He only is the All Hearing, the All Knowing. 6 Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if ye would be sure. 7 There is no god except He. He revives and causes to die. (He is) your Lord and the Lord of your fathers, the ancients. 8 But they are in doubt, amusing themselves. 9 Then wait you for the Day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 Covering the people, this is a painful torment. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How can they benefit from admonition, seeing that a messenger had already come to them explaining things clearly? 13 Then they had turned away from him (Messenger Muhammad SAW) and said: "One (Muhammad SAW) taught (by a human being), a madman!" 14 Yet We will hold the scourge back for a while, (but no sooner than We will do so) you will revert to your old ways. 15 The day that We shall seize them with a grievous hold, We will indeed castigate them. 16 ۞ We had tried the people of Pharaoh before them. A respected prophet had come to them (saying): 17 Saying: "Restore to me the Servants of Allah: I am to you an messenger worthy of all trust; 18 And that do not exalt yourselves against Allah, surely I will bring to you a clear authority: 19 I take refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me. 20 And if you do not believe me, [at least] stand away from me!" 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 [Allah said], "Then set out with My servants by night. Indeed, you are to be pursued. 23 And leave thou the sea divided: verily they are a host to be drowned. 24 They left - how many! of gardens and springs. 25 And cornfields and noble places! 26 And pleasant things wherein they took delight! 27 Even so (it was), and We made it an inheritance for other folk; 28 Neither did the heavens weep for them, nor the earth, nor were they granted respite. 29
