Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
Ha. Mim. 1 By the luminious Book. 2 We have sent it down in a blessed night (We are ever warning) 3 On that night is made distinct every precise matter - 4 determined as a bidding from Us, (We are ever sending) 5 A mercy from your Lord, surely He is the Hearing, the Knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no deity except Him; He gives life and causes death. [He is] your Lord and the Lord of your first forefathers. 8 Nay, but they are in doubt, playing. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. – 10 That will envelop the people. This will be a painful punishment. 11 Our Lord! remove from us the punishment; surely we are believers. 12 How could this punishment bring them to their senses when a Messenger evidently had come to them, 13 but then they turned away from him, saying: 'He is tutored, mad' 14 If We remove the torment a little, you revert back (to misdeeds). 15 The day when We will seize with the greatest seizure – We will indeed take revenge. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 "Send the servants of God with me. I am a trustworthy Messenger sent to you. 18 And saying exalt not yourselves against Allah; verily I have come unto you with an authority manifest. 19 I have sought refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you stone me [to death]. 20 "If ye believe me not, at least keep yourselves away from me." 21 And [finally] he called to his Lord that these were a criminal people. 22 We commanded him, “Journey with My bondmen in a part of the night – you will be pursued.” 23 and leave the sea becalmed [between thee and Pharaoh's men]: for, verily, they are a host destined to be drowned!" 24 They left how many gardens and fountains, 25 and sown fields, fine sitting places, 26 And comfort wherein they were amused. 27 Thus (was their end)! And We made other people inherit (those things)! 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29
