Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
59 verses, revealed in Mecca after Vanity (Al-Zukhruf) before Kneeling (Al-Jaatheyah)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
HaMeem 1 By the Scripture that maketh plain 2 that We have revealed the Quran on a blessed night to warn mankind. 3 Therein (that night) is decreed every matter of ordainments. 4 A command from Us; surely We are the senders (of apostles), 5 as a mercy from thy Lord (surely He is the All-hearing, the All-knowing) 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all that is between them, if you (but) have a faith with certainty. 7 There is no god but He: He gives life and causes death. He is your Lord and the Lord of your forefathers of yore. 8 Nay, but they [who lack inner certainty] are but dying with their doubts. 9 So you await the day when the sky will bring forth a visible smoke. 10 Enveloping the people: this will be a Penalty Grievous. 11 Thereupon they will say, “O our Lord! Remove the punishment from us we now accept faith.” 12 How is it possible for them to accept guidance, whereas a Noble Messenger who speaks clearly has already come to them? 13 then they turned away from him and said, 'A man tutored, possessed!' 14 Verily We shall remove the torment for a while; but verily ye shall revert. 15 The Day when We shall seize them with a mighty seizing, that will be the Day on which We shall inflict upon you full retribution. 16 ۞ And We had already tried before them the people of Pharaoh, and there came to them a noble messenger, 17 [Saying], "Render to me the servants of Allah. Indeed, I am to you a trustworthy messenger," 18 "And be not arrogant as against Allah: for I come to you with authority manifest. 19 I have taken refuge with my Lord and your Lord lest you should attack me with stones. 20 And if you do not believe in me, then leave me alone. 21 Then he called upon his Lord: These are a guilty people. 22 (His Lord answered): 'Set out with My worshipers in the night, for you will surely be followed. 23 And leave the sea becalmed; they are a drowned host.' 24 How many gardens and fountains they left behind them, 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 and other bounties which they enjoyed yet left behind! 27 Thus (it was), and We gave them as a heritage to another people. 28 And the heaven and earth wept not for them, nor were they reprieved. 29

قراءة القرآن مترجماً إلى الإنجليزية أو أية لغة أخرى أشبه بقراءة كتب التفسير من قراءة ترجمات حرفية.
Reading the Quran translated into English, or any other language, is more like reading books of interpretation than reading literal translations.
