Smoke (Al-Dukhaan)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
Ha, Meem. 1 By the manifest Book (this Quran) that makes things clear, 2 We sent it down during a Blessed Night: for We (ever) wish to warn (against Evil). 3 On which all affairs are sorted out and decided 4 As a command from Our presence - Lo! We are ever sending - 5 in pursuance of thy Sustainer's grace [unto man]. Verily, He alone is all-hearing, all-knowing, 6 The Lord of the heavens and the earth and all between them, if ye (but) have an assured faith. 7 There is no god but He; He gives life and causes death, your Lord and the Lord of your fathers of yore. 8 Yet they play about in doubt. 9 So wait thou the day whereon the heaven will bring forth a manifest smoke: 10 Which will envelop the people; this is a painful punishment. 11 "O Lord, take away this torment from us," (they will pray); "we have come to believe." 12 How shall the message be (effectual) for them, seeing that an Messenger explaining things clearly has (already) come to them,- 13 and they turned away, saying, "He is a trained and insane person". 14 [Still,] behold, We shall postpone this suffering for a little while, although you are bound to revert [to your evil ways: but] 15 On the Day when We shall seize you with the greatest grasp. Verily, We will exact retribution. 16 ۞ We tried Pharaoh's nation before them. A noble Messenger came to them, 17 saying, 'Deliver to me God's servants; I am for you a faithful Messenger, 18 Do not rise up against Allah, I come to you with clear authority. 19 and, behold, it is with my Sustainer - and your Sustainer - that I seek refuge against all your endeavours to revile me. 20 If you do not want to believe, leave me alone". 21 Then he called to his Lord: "These are a sinful people." 22 And [God said]: "Go thou forth with My servants by night, for you will surely be pursued; 23 Then leave the sea calm they are an army that will be drowned. 24 How many gardens and fountains did they leave behind, 25 And fields and stately mansions, 26 and [all that] life of ease in which they used to delight! 27 Even so; and We bequeathed them upon another people. 28 Neither heaven nor earth wept for them, nor were they allowed any respite. 29
