So We saved the children of Israel from degrading suffering 30 Inflicted by Pharaoh, for he was arrogant (even) among inordinate transgressors. 31 We knowingly chose them above all other people 32 and bestowed upon them the Signs wherein lay an evident test for them. 33 Yet those who deny the truth say, 34 'There is nothing except the first death, we shall never be revived. 35 So then, bring forth our forefathers [as witnesses,] if what you claim is true!" 36 Are they better than the people of Tubba' and those who came before them? We destroyed them, because they were guilty of sin. 37 We have not created the heavens and the earth and all that is between them for Our own amusement. 38 We created them not except with truth (i.e. to examine and test those who are obedient and those who are disobedient and then reward the obedient ones and punish the disobedient ones), but most of them know not. 39 Indeed, the Day of Judgement is the appointed time for them all - 40 the Day when no friend shall be of the least avail to his friend, and when none shall be succoured 41 Save those on whom Allah will have mercy. Verily He! He is the Mighty, the Merciful. 42
