Has the story reached thee, of the honoured guests of Abraham? 24 When they came to him saying, "Peace be with you," he replied to their greeting in the same manner and said to himself, "These are a strange people". 25 Then he turned away privately unto his household, and brought a calf fatted. 26 He placed it before them. Then he said, "Why are you not eating?" 27 Then he conceived a fear of them. They said: fear not. And they gave him the tidings of a youth knowing. 28 But his wife came forward (laughing) aloud: she smote her forehead and said: "A barren old woman!" 29 They said: Even so saith thy Lord. Lo! He is the Wise, the Knower. 30 ۞ (Abraham) said: And (afterward) what is your errand, O ye sent (from Allah)? 31 They replied: 'We are sent to a sinful nation, 32 so that we bring down stones of clay upon them 33 marked by your Lord for the sinful' 34 Then we brought forth such believers as were there. 35 – and We did not find there any, apart from a single house of Muslims – 36 And We kept a sign remaining in it, for those who fear the painful punishment. 37 In Moses, too, (there were signs). We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority, 38 and he turned away in [the pride of] his power and said, "A sorcerer [is this Moses,] or a madman!" 39 So We seized him and his hosts, and We cast them into the sea, and he blameworthy. 40 And in 'Ad (there is also a sign) when We sent against them the barren wind; 41 that left nothing that it came upon without reducing it to rubble. 42 And in the Thamud (was another Sign): Behold, they were told, "Enjoy (your brief day) for a little while!" 43 after they had turned with disdain from their Sustainer's commandment - whereupon the thunderbolt of punishment overtook them while they were [helplessly] looking on: 44 So they were neither able to stand up, nor were they able to take revenge. 45 And before them, We destroyed the people of Nooh; they were indeed a sinning nation. 46
