Has the story reached you, of the honoured guests [three angels; Jibrael (Gabriel) along with another two] of Ibrahim (Abraham)? 24 When they entered upon him and said, "[We greet you with] peace." He answered, "[And upon you] peace, [you are] a people unknown. 25 Then he turned quickly to his household, and brought a fatted calf, 26 and placed it before them. "Will you not eat?" he said, 27 Then he conceived a fear of them. They said: fear not. And they gave him the tidings of a youth knowing. 28 Thereupon his wife approached [the guests] with a loud cry, and struck her face [in astonishment] and exclaimed: "A barren old woman [like me]!" 29 They said: Thus says your Lord: Surely He is the Wise, the Knowing. 30 ۞ He said: What is your affair then, O apostles! 31 They replied, "We have been sent to a sinful people, 32 So as to let loose clods of clay on them 33 "Marked as from thy Lord for those who trespass beyond bounds." 34 So We brought forth such believers as were in it, 35 But did not find more than a single family of believers. 36 And We left behind therein a portent for those who fear a painful doom. 37 In Moses, too, (there were signs). We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority, 38 But he turned his back, he and his courtiers, and said, "This is a sorcerer or a madman." 39 So We seized him and his hosts and cast them into the sea. Indeed, he was blameworthy. 40 And in 'Ad (there is also a sign) when We sent against them the barren wind; 41 Which turned everything it touched to ashes. 42 In the Thamud [there was another sign], when they were told, "Make the most of your lives for a while." 43 Then they disdained the command of their Lord; wherefore the bolt laid hold of them even while they looked on. 44 and they were not able to stand upright, and were not helped. 45 And the people of Noah before; surely they were an ungodly people. 46
