Hath the story of Abraham's honoured guests reached thee (O Muhammad)? 24 When they came to him, they said: "Peace." He answered: "Peace." They were a people he did not recognise. 25 Then he went back to his family and brought a fat roasted calf 26 So he brought it near them. He said: What! will you not eat? 27 beginning to be afraid of them. But they said, "Don't be afraid"; and they gave him the good news of a son who would be endowed with knowledge. 28 Then his wife came forward with a loud voice, she smote her face, and said: "A barren old woman!" 29 They said, 'So says thy Lord; He is the All-wise, the All-knowing.' 30 ۞ Abraham asked, "What is your errand, O messengers?" 31 They said: Lo! we are sent unto a guilty folk, 32 so that we may bring down upon them a shower of stones of clay, 33 "Marked as from thy Lord for those who trespass beyond bounds." 34 Then we brought forth such believers as were there. 35 We found in it only one household of true believers -- 36 and We left therein a Sign for those who fear the grievous chastisement. 37 AND IN [the story of Pharaoh and] Moses, too, [We left the same message: for] when We sent him unto Pharaoh with [Our] manifest authority, 38 but he turned his back with his Assembly, saying: 'He is (either) a sorcerer or a mad man' 39 So We seized him and his hosts and hurled them into the sea and he was blamable. 40 And in 'Aad [was a sign], when We sent against them the barren wind. 41 It spared nothing that it reached, but blew it into broken spreads of rotten ruins. 42 In the Thamud [there was another sign], when they were told, "Make the most of your lives for a while." 43 But they insolently defied the Command of their Lord: So the stunning noise (of an earthquake) seized them, even while they were looking on. 44 Then they were unable to rise up, nor could they help themselves. 45 And [thus, too, We destroyed] Noah's people aforetime: for they were iniquitous folk. 46
