AND HAS the story of Abraham's honoured guests ever come within thy ken? 24 When they came to him saying, "Peace be with you," he replied to their greeting in the same manner and said to himself, "These are a strange people". 25 Then he turned quickly to his household, and brought a fatted calf, 26 and placed it before them, saying, "Will you not eat?" 27 Then he conceived a fear of them. They said: fear not. And they gave him the tidings of a youth knowing. 28 Then his wife came forward, crying and beating her brow. She said, "I am surely a barren, old woman." 29 They said: “So has your Lord said (that you shall have a boy). Surely He is Most Wise, All-Knowing.” 30 ۞ He said: "What is then your business, O messengers?" 31 They answered: "Behold, we have been sent unto a people lost in sin, 32 “To throw upon them stones of baked clay.” 33 Marked, from before thy Lord, for the extravagant. 34 We saved the believers among them, 35 We therefore found just one house over there that was Muslim. 36 And so We left therein a message for those who fear the grievous suffering [which awaits all evildoers]. 37 And in Moses [was a sign], when We sent him to Pharaoh with clear authority. 38 but he turned his back, with his court, saying, 'A sorcerer, or a man possessed!' 39 So We took him and his forces, and threw them into the sea; and his was the blame. 40 There is another sign in the [tribe of] 'Ad, when We sent against them a life-destroying wind 41 It did not leave aught on which it blew, but it made it like ashes. 42 And also in Thamood, when it was said to them, 'Take your enjoyment for a while!' 43 But in their pride they turn away from the commandment of their Lord and the thunderbolt struck them whilst they were looking; 44 Then they could not even stand (on their feet), nor could they help themselves. 45 And the people of Nuh before, surely they were a transgressing people. 46
