The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And the Scripture inscribed 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 The roof raised high, 5 and the sea that is full 6 surely thy Lord's chastisement is about to fall; 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 and who indulged in false disputes against (God's revelations). 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 (And told:) "This is the fire which you denied. 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 “Enter it – now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient – it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' 28
