The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the mount 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 by the much-visited House, 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 There is none that can avert it; 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' 28
