The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And the Book written 2 In an outstretched fine parchment, 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 And the lofty roof. 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 Woe, then, on that Day to those who give the lie (to this Message) 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 They will say: “When we were living before among our kinsfolk we lived in constant fear (of Allah's displeasure). 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
