The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 on fine parchment; 3 And the House (Kaaba) that is visited, 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 surely, the punishment of your Lord is about to come, 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 and the mountains are in motion, 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 And We shall provide them with fruit and meat, such as they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" 28
