The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 And by the Book Inscribed. 2 on fine parchment; 3 by the much-visited House, 4 The roof raised high, 5 and by the swelling sea: 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 Who are playing in falsehood. 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 (it will be said to them): 'This is the Fire which you belied! 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". 28
