The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 And by oath of a passage, written – 2 in an exposed parchment 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ Round about them will serve, (devoted) to them, young male servants (handsome) as Pearls well-guarded. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 But God has granted us favors and saved us from the scorching heat of the torment. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
