The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the Mount (of Revelation); 1 And by oath of a passage, written 2 In an outstretched fine parchment, 3 by the House inhabited 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 Then woe that day unto the deniers 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 rejoicing in all their Lord has given them, and their Lord will guard them against the punishment of Hell. 18 They will be told, "Eat and drink to your heart's delight for what you have done". 19 They will recline (with ease) on thrones arranged in ranks. And We shall marry them to Houris (female, fair ones) with wide lovely eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 while they pass therein a cup one to another wherein is no idle talk, no cause of sin, 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 They will go to one another asking each other questions: 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 but Allah has been gracious to us and has protected us from the punishment of the burning wind. 27 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
