The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
I swear by the Mountain, 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 in an exposed parchment 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection). 6 Verily, the Torment of your Lord will surely come to pass, 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth 11 and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 As to the Righteous, they will be in Gardens, and in Happiness,- 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 "But Allah has been good to us, and has delivered us from the Penalty of the Scorching Wind. 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
