The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Mount 1 and a Book inscribed 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 by the much-visited House, 4 and the uplifted roof 5 And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection). 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 There shall be none to avert it; 8 On the day when the heavens will swiftly fly 9 And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 Is it magic then or do you not see? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 Enjoying in that which their Lord has bestowed on them, and (the fact that) their Lord saved them from the torment of the blazing Fire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 And those who believed, and their seed followed them in belief, We shall join their seed with them, and We shall not defraud them of aught of their work; every man shall be pledged for what he earned. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with all kinds of fruit and meat, whatever they may desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" 28
