The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
By the Mount, 1 and a Book inscribed 2 on wide-open scrolls. 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 And [by] the sea filled [with fire], 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 and no one will be able to prevent it. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 and the mountains shall violently fly about. 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 on that Day they shall be ruthlessly thrust into the Fire of Hell. 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Indeed, the righteous will be in gardens and pleasure, 17 Enjoying in that which their Lord has bestowed on them, and (the fact that) their Lord saved them from the torment of the blazing Fire. 18 (To them will be said:) "Eat and drink ye, with profit and health, because of your (good) deeds." 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained. 21 And We will aid them with fruit and flesh such as they desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' 28
