The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 And the sea set aflame. 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 There is none that can avert it; 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will move away with a (horrible) movement. 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Roast in it, bear it with or without patience, it is the same, you are only being recompensed for that which you used to do' 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 We had prayed to Him; He is Kind and All-merciful". 28
