The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 on fine parchment; 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 and the sea that is full 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 No one can avert it. 8 (It shall come to pass) on the Day when the heaven will convulse in a great convulsion, 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 They will go to one another asking each other questions: 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
