The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Most Beneficent, the Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 And by the sea kept filled (or it will be fire kindled on the Day of Resurrection). 6 verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 A day on which the heavens will shake with a visible shaking. 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 Who are playing in falsehood. 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 Then is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Roast therein; endure it or endure it not, thereof it is equal unto you. Ye are only being requited for that which ye have been working. 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 “Eat and drink with pleasure, a reward for what you used to do.” 19 The God-fearing shall be reclining on couches facing each other, and We shall wed them to maidens with large, beautiful eyes. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will converse with one another, putting questions to each other, 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 "Verily, We used to invoke Him (Alone and none else) before. Verily, He is Al-Barr (the Most Subtle, Kind, Courteous, and Generous), the Most Merciful." 28
