The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 In parchment spread open 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 and the uplifted roof 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 Woe on that Day to those who deny the truth, 11 such as play at plunging, 12 On that day they will be violently pushed into the fire 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 “So is this magic, or are you unable to see?” 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 [But,] verily, the God-conscious will find themselves [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 reclining on couches [of happiness] ranged in rows!" And [in that paradise] We shall mate them with companions pure, most beautiful of eye. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
