The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount, 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 In an outstretched fine parchment, 3 And [by] the frequented House 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 and no one will be able to prevent it. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 That Day shall they be thrust down to the Fire of Hell, irresistibly. 13 This is the Fire which ye were wont to believe. 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ Youths as fair as hidden pearls will be set apart to wait upon them; they will be running to and fro to serve them. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 Saying, “Indeed before this, we were in our houses, worried.” 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
