The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 and a Book inscribed 2 On an open record. 3 by the House inhabited 4 and the roof uplifted 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, 7 No one can avert it. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Then woe, that Day, to the deniers, 11 such as play at plunging, 12 The day on which they shall be driven away to the fire of hell with violence. 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Is it magic, or you cannot see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 The pious will live in bountiful Paradise, 17 rejoicing in all that their Sustainer will have granted them: for their Sustainer will have warded off from them all suffering through the blazing fire. 18 (It will be said): 'Eat and drink with a good appetite because of that which you did' 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 The offspring of the believers will also follow them to Paradise. So shall We join their offspring to them because of their faith. We shall reduce nothing from their deeds. Everyone will be responsible for his own actions. 21 And We aided them with fruit and meat, whatever they desire. 22 There they will pass a goblet to one another with neither idle talk nor sin, 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 saying, "We were afraid while in the world. 26 So Allah conferred favor upon us and protected us from the punishment of the Scorching Fire. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
