The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful
By the mount 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 on parchment for distribution, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 And the roof exalted, 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 Verily the torment of thine Lord is sure to befalls 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 On the day when the heaven shall move from side to side 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Surely those who guard (against evil) shall be in gardens and bliss 17 Delighted at the bestowal of their Lord; and their Lord has saved them from the fire. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 They shall pass therein from one to another a cup wherein there shall be nothing vain nor any sin. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 They will say: verily we were aforetime, midst our household, ever in dread. 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 Indeed, we used to supplicate Him before. Indeed, it is He who is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
