The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By oath of (mount) Tur. 1 And by the Book Inscribed. 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 and the sea swarming, 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 There is none that can ward it off. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 Those who in wading sport themselves. 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 (They shall be) reclining on couches ranged in rows and We shall wed them to houris (virgins of Paradise) with large wide eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
