The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, most benevolent, ever-merciful
By the Mount (Sinai), 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 And the elevated canopy 5 And the swollen sea 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 on the Day when the skies are convulsed, 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Woe will be to those who rejected the Truth 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 Is this magic? or ye still see not clearly! 15 Now enter it. Whether you behave patiently or impatiently will make no difference: you are only being repaid for what you have done. 16 Surely the God-fearing shall be in Gardens and bliss, 17 Happy because of what their Lord hath given them, and (because) their Lord hath warded off from them the torment of hell-fire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 Reclining on thrones set in lines, and We will unite them to large-eyed beautiful ones. 20 To those who have attained to faith We shall unite their offspring who have also followed them in faith, and We shall not let any of their good deeds go unrewarded; every human being is a pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 They will exchange cups of wine free of (incitement to) pleasantry or sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 But God has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of scorching wind. 27 We used to pray to Him erstwhile; He is the just and merciful. 28
