The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 and by the swelling sea, 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 there is none to avert it. 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 The mountains move and fly away, 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 the day when they shall be pitched into the fire of Gehenna: 13 and they will be told, "This is the fire which you called a lie. 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 reclining on couches arranged in rows. And We shall wed them to fair maidens with large beautiful eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 We shall give them fruits and meat as they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ And they will be waited upon by [immortal] youths, [as if they were children] of their own, [as pure] as if they were pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
