The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount 1 By a Decree inscribed 2 In a Scroll unfolded; 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 and the roof uplifted 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 The day the sky will tremble, 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 Surely the godfearing shall be in gardens and bliss, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ And young attendants like pearls within their shells, will go round. 24 And they will advance unto each other asking questions. 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
