The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
By the Mount 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 In parchment spread open 3 by the House inhabited 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 and by the swelling ocean, 6 The punishment of your Lord is certain to come. 7 There is none can avert it;- 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 “This is the Hell which you used to give the lie to.” 14 Is it magic or do you not still see? 15 Endure it [now]! But [whether you] bear yourselves with patience or without patience, it will be the same to you: you are but being requited for what you were wont to do." 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 rejoicing in that their Lord has given them; and their Lord shall guard them against the chastisement of Hell. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And those who believed and whose descendants followed them in faith - We will join with them their descendants, and We will not deprive them of anything of their deeds. Every person, for what he earned, is retained. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And one of them turned towards the other, questioning. 25 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
