The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I swear by the Mountain, 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 in an exposed parchment 3 And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); 4 and the roof uplifted 5 and the sea that is full 6 Indeed, the punishment of your Lord will occur. 7 there is none to avert it. 8 Upon the Day when the heaven spins dizzily 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 all those who [throughout their lives] but idly played with things vain 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 (And it is said unto them): This is the Fire which ye were wont to deny. 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Go now and burn in it. It is all the same whether you bear it patiently or do not bear it with patience. You are only being recompensed for your deeds.” 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 Enjoying the (Bliss) which their Lord hath bestowed on them, and their Lord shall deliver them from the Penalty of the Fire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 We shall unite the believers with those descendants of theirs who followed them in their faith, and shall not deny them any part of the reward for their good deeds. Every person is pledged to what he did. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 They will pass cups of un-intoxicating and unsinful wine to one another. 23 ۞ And there will go round boy-servants of theirs, to serve them as if they were preserved pearls. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 They will say, "Indeed, we were previously among our people fearful [of displeasing Allah]. 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
