The Mountain (Al-Toor)
Allah - beginning with the name of - the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 In parchment spread open 3 by the established House (Mecca), 4 Consider the vault [of heaven] raised high! 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 verily your Lord's chastisement shall come to pass, 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 On the Day whereon the heaven will shake with an awful shaking. 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 Those who are playing in pursuits. 12 The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Lo! those who kept their duty dwell in gardens and delight, 17 Rejoicing in that which their Lord hath vouchsafed unto them; and their Lord will protect them from the torment of the Flame. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 Reclining on ranged couches. And we wed them unto fair ones with wide, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ And young attendants like pearls within their shells, will go round. 24 And some of them draw near to others, questioning. 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 Wherefore Allah hath obliged us, and hath protected us from the torment of the Scorch. 27 “Indeed we used to worship Him in our previous life; indeed He only is the Benign, the Most Merciful.” 28
