The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the mount 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 on unrolled parchment, 3 by the Visited House, 4 And the elevated canopy 5 and the sea swarming, 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 on the Day when the skies are convulsed, 9 And the mountains move away with (awful) movement, 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 Those who sport entering into vain discourses. 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 “This is the fire, which you used to deny!” 14 Is this magic or do you not see? 15 “Enter it – now whether you patiently bear it or are impatient – it is the same for you; for you is a recompense only for what you used to do.” 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 (And it is said unto them): Eat and drink in health (as a reward) for what ye used to do, 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believe and whose progeny follow them in belief. We shall cause their progeny to join them, and We shall not diminish unto them aught of their own work. Every man is for that which he hath earned a pledge. 21 We shall give them fruits and meats, and what they desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. 24 They will turn to one another and ask (regarding the past events). 25 Saying: Surely we feared before on account of our families: 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
