The Mountain (Al-Toor)
49 verses, revealed in Mecca after Prostration (Al-Sajdah) before Kingship (Al-Mulk)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
By the Mount; 1 and by the Book in lines 2 In parchment spread open 3 Consider the long-enduring house [of worship]! 4 and by the lofty vault of the sky, 5 And the sea kept filled, 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 Of it there is no preventer. 8 On the Day when the firmament will be in dreadful commotion. 9 And the mountains will pass on, departing - 10 Then woe that Day to the beliers; 11 Who are in [empty] discourse amusing themselves. 12 A day when they will be pushed, forcibly shoved towards the fire of hell. 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 There they pass from hand to hand a cup wherein is neither vanity nor cause of sin. 23 ۞ And there will go round on them youths appointed to attend them as though they were pearls hidden. 24 And some of them shall advance towards others questioning each other. 25 They say, 'We were before among our people, ever going in fear, 26 But Allah has been gracious to us and He has saved us from the punishment of the hot wind: 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
