The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful
By the Mount Sinai, 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 by the much-frequented House, 4 By the Canopy Raised High; 5 and the sea swarming, 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 There is none that can avert it; 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 So on that day, ruin is for those who deny. 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 On the Day when they shall be thrust into Hell with a violent thrust (and shall be told): 13 This is the fire which you used to give the lie to. 14 Is this magic, or do you not see? 15 [Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do." 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 "Eat and drink with good cheer as a reward for your good deeds," 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 And they who believe and whose seed follow them in faith, We cause their seed to join them (there), and We deprive them of nought of their (life's) work. Every man is a pledge for that which he hath earned. 21 And We shall succour them with fruits and flesh such as they desire 22 They shall pass on to one another a cup that will incite neither levity nor sin. 23 ۞ They will be served by youths who will be as beautiful as pearls. 24 They will turn to one another ask questions, 25 Saying: Lo! of old, when we were with our families, we were ever anxious; 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 "Truly, we did call unto Him from of old: truly it is He, the Beneficent, the Merciful!" 28
