The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the Mount, 1 And the Scripture inscribed 2 in an exposed parchment 3 And by oath of the Inhabited House. 4 By the roof elevated. 5 And the swollen sea, 6 Lo! the doom of thy Lord will surely come to pass; 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 And the mountains will fly hither and thither. 10 On that Day woe to those who belied 11 and amuse themselves with vain argumentation. 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Was it, then, a delusion or is it that you failed to see [its truth]? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 rejoicing in whatever their Lord has given them. Their Lord has saved them from the torment of the Fire, 18 [They will be told], "Eat and drink in satisfaction for what you used to do." 19 They will recline (with ease) on Thrones (of dignity) arranged in ranks; and We shall join them to Companions, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 And We shall bestow on them, of fruit and meat, anything they shall desire. 22 There, they shall pass from hand to hand a cup which does not lead to any idle talk or sin. 23 ۞ They will be waited upon by immortal youths, like pearls hidden in their shells. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 'When we were among our people' they will say, 'we were ever fearful, 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 Formerly we had always prayed to Him. Surely He is Most Benign, Most Compassionate.” 28
