The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Compassionate, the Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 And a Scripture inscribed 2 in a parchment unrolled, 3 By the much-frequented Fane; 4 And the roof exalted, 5 and the sea swarming, 6 the punishment of your Lord shall certainly come to pass, 7 there is none to prevent it. 8 Upon the day when heaven spins dizzily 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Then woe that Day to those that treat (Truth) as Falsehood;- 11 those who are in plunging, playing. 12 On the Day whereon they will be pushed into Hell-Fire with a dreadful push. 13 This is the Fire which you used to belie. 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Roast in it. Bear it with patience or impatience, it will be the same for you. You will be requited for what you had done." 16 Verily the God-fearing will be in Gardens and Delight. 17 enjoying what Allah will have endowed them with; and their Lord will have saved them from the torment of the Blazing Fire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 And (as for) those who believe and their offspring follow them in faith, We will unite with them their offspring and We will not diminish to them aught of their work; every man is responsible for what he shall have wrought. 21 We shall provide them in abundance with such fruit and meat as they desire. 22 and in that [paradise] they shall pass on to one another a cup which will not give rise to empty talk, and neither incite to sin. 23 ۞ And round them shall go boys of theirs as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They will advance to each other, engaging in mutual enquiry. 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 “So Allah did us a great favour, and saved us from the punishment of the flame.” 27 Verily we were wont to pray unto Him aforetime; verily He! it is He, the Benign, the Merciful. 28
