The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of Allah, the Merciful, the Most Merciful
I CALL TO witness the Mount Sinai, 1 and by the Scripture penned 2 On a parchment scroll unrolled, 3 And the House frequented, 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 Consider the surf-swollen sea! 6 Indeed your Lord’s punishment will surely take place. 7 Of it there is no averter. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 And the mountains will move away with an awful movement. 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 who divert themselves with idle chatter: 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 What, is this magic, or is it you that do not see? 15 [Enter to] burn therein; then be patient or impatient - it is all the same for you. You are only being recompensed [for] what you used to do." 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 [And they will be told:] "Eat and drink with good cheer as an outcome of what you were wont to do, 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 We shall provide them with fruits and the meat of the kind which they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ and there go round them youths, their own, as if they were hidden pearls. 24 They advance one upon another, asking each other questions. 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 Then Allah graced us with His favour and saved us from the chastisement of the scorching wind. 27 Before, we were supplicating to Him. He is the Giving, the Most Merciful' 28
