The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 by the book (Torah) written 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 By the roof elevated. 5 And by the Ocean filled with Swell;- 6 Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;- 7 there is none to avert it. 8 On the Day the heaven will sway with circular motion 9 and the mountains quickly move. 10 Woe, then, will be on that Day to the beliers 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 On that Day when they shall be pitched into the Fire of Gehenna (Hell), 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Then is this magic, or do you not see? 15 "Burn ye therein: the same is it to you whether ye bear it with patience, or not: Ye but receive the recompense of your (own) deeds." 16 Indeed the pious are in Gardens and peace. 17 Rejoicing at what their Lord has given them; and their Lord will preserve them from the torment of Hell. 18 'Eat and drink, with wholesome appetite, for that you were working. 19 Reclining on couches ranged. And We shall couple them with maidens wide eyed. 20 And those who accepted faith, and whose descendants followed them with faith – We have joined their descendants with them, and have not reduced anything for them from their deeds; every soul is trapped in its own deeds. 21 And We shall bestow on them fruit and meat in abundance - whatever they may desire: 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ And there go round, waiting on them menservants of their own, as they were hidden pearls. 24 And some of them draw near unto others, questioning, 25 Saying: "Aforetime, we were afraid with our families (from the punishment of Allah). 26 But Allah hath been gracious unto us and hath preserved us from the torment of the breath of Fire. 27 Lo! we used to pray unto Him of old. Lo! He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
