The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful
By the Mount; 1 and the Book inscribed 2 In parchment unrolled. 3 The house ever-peopled, 4 by the high ceiling (heaven), 5 And the swollen sea, 6 VERILY, [O man,] the suffering decreed by thy Sustainer [for the sinners] will indeed come to pass: 7 there is none who could avert it. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 and the mountains move, moving. 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 Who, ignoring the Reality, engage in pleasantries. 12 The Day when they will be pushed down by force to the Fire of Hell, with a horrible, forceful pushing. 13 This is the fire which you used to deny. 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 Endure the heat thereof, and whether ye are patient of it or impatient of it is all one for you. Ye are only being paid for what ye used to do. 16 Truly, the God-fearing will dwell [on that Day] in gardens and in bliss, 17 Rejoicing because of what their Lord gave them, and their Lord saved them from the punishment of the burning fire. 18 "Eat and drink with relish," (they will be told), (as recompense) for what you had done." 19 They will recline on couches arranged in rows and We shall couple them with maidens with large, lovely eyes. 20 And those who believed, and whose progeny also followed them in their faith, will be united with their offspring. We will not deprive them of their labour in the least. Every man is bound to what he does. 21 And We shall increasingly give them fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 They will exchange with one another a cup [of wine] wherein [results] no ill speech or commission of sin. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 They will say: "Aforetime, we were not without fear for the sake of our people. 26 and so God has graced us with His favour, and has warded off from us all suffering through the scorching winds [of frustration]. 27 before this, we used to pray to Him. Surely, He is the Beneficent, the Merciful." 28
