The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful
CONSIDER Mount Sinai! 1 and by the Book in lines 2 In parchment spread open 3 by the much-visited House, 4 and the roof uplifted 5 And the swollen sea, 6 Most surely the punishment of your Lord will come to pass; 7 there is none to avert it. 8 On the day when the heaven will heave with (awful) heaving, 9 and the mountains shudder and shake. 10 So woe on that day to those who reject (the truth), 11 Who play in talk of grave matters; 12 on the Day when they shall be thrust into the fire with [an irresistible] thrust, [and will be told:] 13 "This is the fire which you were wont to call a lie! 14 Is this magic, or do ye not see? 15 Burn in its heat. It is all the same for you whether you exercise patience or not; This is the recompense for your deeds". 16 Verily, the Muttaqun (pious - see V. 2:2) will be in Gardens (Paradise), and Delight. 17 Enjoying what their Lord has given them, and their Lord protected them from the punishment of Hellfire. 18 "Eat and drink with happiness because of what you used to do." 19 Reclining upon couches ranged in rows; and We shall espouse them to wide-eyed houris. 20 And those who believe and whose offspring follow them in Faith, to them shall We join their offspring, and We shall not decrease the reward of their deeds in anything. Every person is a pledge for that which he has earned. 21 And We provide them with fruit and meat such as they desire. 22 In it, they accept cups from each other, in which is neither any lewdness nor any sin. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 And they [who are thus blest] will turn to one another, asking each other [about their past lives]. 25 They will say: "Behold, aforetime - when we were [still living] in the midst of our kith and kin - we were full of fear [at the thought of God's displeasure]: 26 "But Allah has been gracious to us, and has saved us from the torment of the Fire. 27 Surely we called upon Him before: Surely He is the Benign, the Merciful. 28
