The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the name of God, The Most Gracious, The Dispenser of Grace
By the Mount, 1 Consider [God's] revelation, inscribed 2 In an outstretched fine parchment, 3 by the Visited House, 4 by the elevated canopy; 5 By the sea overflowing. 6 the torment of your Lord will inevitably take place 7 there is no one who could avert it, 8 On the Day when the heaven will shake with a dreadful shaking, 9 And the mountains shall pass away passing away (altogether). 10 woe that day unto those that cry lies, 11 such as play at plunging, 12 The Day they are thrust toward the fire of Hell with a [violent] thrust, [its angels will say], 13 'This is the fire that you cried lies to! 14 "Is this then a fake, or is it ye that do not see? 15 Taste you therein its heat, and whether you are patient of it or impatient of it, it is all the same. You are only being requited for what you used to do. 16 But in the Gardens the righteous shall live in bliss, 17 Enjoying in that which their Lord has bestowed on them, and (the fact that) their Lord saved them from the torment of the blazing Fire. 18 Eat and drink with relish for that which ye have been working. 19 They would recline on couches set in rows, paired with fair companions (clean of thought and) bright of eye. 20 And those who believe and whose families follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families: Nor shall We deprive them (of the fruit) of aught of their works: (Yet) is each individual in pledge for his deeds. 21 And We will aid them with fruit and flesh such as they desire. 22 They will therein snatch from one another a cup; therein will be neither vain babble nor sin. 23 ۞ There will circulate among them [servant] boys [especially] for them, as if they were pearls well-protected. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 God has been gracious to us and has saved us from the torment of Hell's intense heat -- 27 Verily, we did invoke Him [alone] ere this: [and now He has shown us] that He alone is truly benign, a true dispenser of grace!" 28
