The Mountain (Al-Toor)
In the Name of God, the Merciful, the Compassionate
By the mount 1 And [by] a Book inscribed 2 In an outstretched fine parchment, 3 And by the Bait-ul-Ma'mur (the house over the heavens parable to the Ka'bah at Makkah, continuously visited by the angels); 4 And [by] the heaven raised high 5 And the swollen sea 6 Verily, the Doom of thy Lord will indeed come to pass;- 7 none can avert that. 8 [It will come to pass] on the Day when the skies will be convulsed in [a great] convulsion, 9 and the mountains will move with [an awesome] movement. 10 Will be the day of woe for those 11 That play (and paddle) in shallow trifles. 12 The day they are dragged and pushed into Hell, 13 "This:, it will be said, "Is the Fire,- which ye were wont to deny! 14 Is this magic, or is it that you do not see? 15 Roast in it! And bear you patiently, or bear not patiently, equal it is to you; you are only being recompensed for that you were working.' 16 Those who fear God and follow the straight path will surely be in gardens and in bliss, 17 talking of what they have received from their Lord and of how their Lord has saved them from the torment of hell. 18 Eat and drink pleasantly for what you did, 19 Reclining on thrones, in rows; and We have wedded them to maidens with gorgeous eyes. 20 And as for those who have attained to faith and whose offspring will have followed them in faith, We shall unite them with their offspring; and We shall not let aught of their deeds go to waste: [but] every human being will be held in pledge for whatever he has earned. 21 And We will provide them with fruit and meat from whatever they desire. 22 They shall there exchange, one with another, a (loving) cup free of frivolity, free of all taint of ill. 23 ۞ And their boy servants shall go around them, as if they were pearls, safely hidden. 24 They will ask each other questions, 25 Saying: "We were also once full of fear at home. 26 and God was gracious to us, and guarded us against the chastisement of the burning wind; 27 we were before ever calling upon Him; surely He is the All-benign, the All-compassionate.' 28
